The Chicago, Il Carlson Leadership Academy was a very exciting time for SD Alpha. The chapter was given several awards including Distinguished Alumnus awarded to Mike Hart, AVC Operational Excellence, Zollinger Outstanding Senior awarded to Alexander Boehmer, Volunteer of the Year awarded to Nathan Bylander, as well as being 3rd in the nation for total donations during Founder’s Day of Giving 2019. As we celebrated our 23rd year as a SigEp chapter, some of our members received great news: There were more awards that didn’t get mentioned at the ceremony in Chicago.
President Devan Schaefer received an email from Grand President Tom Jelke that SD Alpha was awarded an Excelsior Award for Finance. The script sent along with the email detailed SD Alpha’s improvements with financial accountability from removing open access to the chapter card to the addition of the Controller position under the VP of Finance.
Brother Noah Anderson also received an email from Tom Jelke which included the script which would be read before he was announced as a recipient of the Ruck Leadership Award. Here is what SigEp had to say about Noah:
Our Ruck Leadership Award Recipient has worked hard to improve himself through academics, leadership, and community service. A member of the honors college, he consistently makes the dean’s list and plans to graduate ahead of schedule for his electrical engineering program. Serving his chapter as vice president of recruitment and chaplain, he’s made an impact by supervising two years of his chapter’s Balanced Man Scholarship, recruiting 13 men, a large improvement for his chapter. He was instrumental in bringing in a number of prrominent university officials to speak to the Balanced Man Scholarship finalists including the president and vice president of student affairs. Active in the community, he took the lead in mobilizing his Order of Omega chapter to host a sexual assault awareness week and hosting a prominent speaker. He also helped found a leaderhsip academy for men on campus, which the chapter uses to spead SigEp’s values and build their chapter’s reputation. Named Greek Man of the Year on campus, he’s made a further impact in the community with the American Legion and the chapter’s Dr. Seuss Week in local elementary schools. For the extraordinary impact he’s made to position his chapter as a hugely positive influence in the community, we present this Ruck Leaderhsip Award to a brother from South Dakota Alpha at South Dakota State, Noah Anderson!
